Winston Henry Collier, Jr.
Winston Henry Collier, Jr., 72, of Stanardsville, VA died on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on December 10, 1938 in Charlottesville, VA to the late Winston H. Sr. and Lucille Powell Collier.
W.H. was a member of Stanardsville United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge 1890, Greene Hills, Young Farmers and the Skyline Hunt Club. He enjoyed coaching for the South River Softball Team, being outdoors tending to his farm, socializing with anyone he met, but most of all he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gayle B. Collier, his son, Brian T. Collier and his wife, Teresa, his sister, Sandra C. Shifflett and her husband, Melvin and three grandchildren, Travis Winston, Braydon Todd and Kaylee Elizabeth.
Additional survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sue Ellen Breeden, Alan and Joyce Ann Breeden and Joyce Sims, nieces and nephews, Adrian, Brent, Bridget, Julie, Brandie, Yancey, Angel and Andrew and numerous friends and family that were extremely devoted to him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Winston Todd Collier.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Stanardsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Catharine Guest officiating.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in W.H.’s name to Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care, 500 Martha Jefferson Dr, Charlottesville, VA 22911. and / or the American Cancer Society, 1445 Rio Road East # 104 Charlottesville, VA 22901-1751.
