William Randolph Shifflett, Jr.

January 29, 1955 — April 6, 2025

Stanardsville

William Randolph "Randy" Shifflett, 70, husband of Brenda Lee Shifflett of Stanardsville, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at their home in Stanardsville, Virginia.

Randy was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on January 29, 1955, the firstborn son of the late Billy Randolph Shifflett and Haselteen Shifflett.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his grandson, Brendan Lee Morris.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, are his daughter, Elizabeth Celeste Morris and her husband, Harold "Junior" Morris Jr. of Stanardsville; his two sons, William "Billy" Randolph Shifflett lll of Stanardsville, Richard Clayton Shifflett and his wife Jennifer Shifflett of Staunton; his four brothers, Montie Dale Shifflett Sr. and his wife Patsy of Earlysville, Stanley Ray Shifflett Sr. of Earlysville, Walter Richard "Ricky" Shifflett and his wife Theresa of Earlysville, Anthony Allen "Tony" Shifflett of Ruckersville; his sister, Lori Ann Gausman and her husband Curt of Ruckersville; six grandchildren, Amber Lynn Wright and her husband William, Codey Dawn Martin, Jacob Dillon Morris and his wife Cheyenne, William Clayton Shifflett, Randolph "Ray" Scott Shifflett, Liam Dalton Shifflett; five great grandchildren, Alexander Wright, Daysi Rodriguez, Leonidas Rodriguez, Hadassa Morris, and Roman Morris.

Randy grew up in Albemarle, Virginia. He was an active boy scout and attended Albemarle County Public Schools. His first job was apple picking, which led to carpentry. He loved to work with his hands and create something from nothing.

He found his career as a brick and stone mason. You can drive down any street in Albemarle, Ivy, Broadus Wood, Earlysville, Ruckersville, Stanardsville, or Monticello and see a bricked house. More than likely, Randy and his eldest son, Billy, had their hands in building these houses. Now, saying that, he made any house Randy was in feel like home.

He had a warmth and sweetness, but don't get on his bad side. He was very protective and loved his family, always loved playing with his grandchildren, and was himself a big child at heart. A natural talent to put a silly smile on your face and make you laugh til it hurt with one of his stories. He was definitely a master storyteller.

Most people might have known him as "Cuz" because he always made you feel like family...and well, there's a lot of Shifflett's, so there's a chance you may have been cousins.

As much as he loved to create, he loved the great outdoors just as much. Hunting wasn't just a sport for him; it was his time to think, his time to stop, breathe, and appreciate the beauty of nature. I think hunting was like a form of prayer, the woods his church. Now, hunting and fishing might have been his escape, but music was his love language.

He loved to talk and teach you about anything that had grabbed his attention. He had a thirst for knowledge, and world history especially intrigued him. He was able to take something mundane and put his twist on it to both educate and entertain you simultaneously. He was a friend to all and loved to party and dance, but most of all, he loved to be surrounded by family and enthrall you with his charm and warmth, whether you were blood or we adopted you into the Shifflett family. He was greatly adored by his nieces and nephews and all sorts of extended family. I know he is waiting on us with a welcoming smile and a tight embrace. He will be sorely missed.
