William "Bill" Warren Powell

William “Bill” Warren Powell

William Warren Powell, 87, of Stanardsville died on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Hospice House of Charlottesville. He was born on September 13, 1926 in Greene County to the late Raymond Clyde and Mary Moyers Powell.

Bill served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He belonged to the VFW and Moose Lodge of Greene. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all his garden where he grew the most beautiful vegetables. He was a loving husband for 61 years and a very wonderful father who will be truly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Elnora Powell, his daughter, Sherri Powell and special niece, Donna Powell all of Stanardsville, two sisters, Christine Eppard of Stanardsville and Nora Dillon and her husband, Edwin of Arlington, three brothers, Linwood Powell and his wife, Helen of Elkton, Meredith Powell of Ruckersville and James Powell and his wife, Joyce of Stanardsville, one sister-in-law, Ruby Powell of Stanardsville and numerous other nieces and nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Raymond Junior Powell and Thaddeus W. Powell.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Lamb officiating.

Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
