Vernia Pearl Shifflett

Vernia Pearl Frazier Shifflett, 97, of Earlysville, went to be with her Lord on November 15, 2021. 

She was born January 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late H. Bluford and Mandy Collier Frazier.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George E. Frazier and H. Frank Shifflett; three brothers, James “Jimmy”, Delbert and John Frazier; one sister, Christine “Helen” Thompson; son-in-law Frankie Townsend; granddaughter Lisa Townsend; and friend and companion Phillip Shifflett.  

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Townsend of Earlysville; grandson, Greg (Debbie) Townsend of Earlysville; two granddaughters, Frances (Gary) Walker of Nortonsville and Tracy Townsend of Earlysville; great-grandchildren Michael (LeAnn), David and Christy Walker, Adam (Anne) and Jessica Townsend, Ricky (Sue) Collier; great-great-grandchildren Dakota (Emilee) and Mikey Ellis, Laci Walker and Abigail Walker. She is also survived by three sisters, Audrey Davis of Scottsville, Nettie “Virginia” Thompson of Crozet, and Dolly “Minnie” McCauley of Nortonsville; numerous nieces and nephews; and David and Travis Collier.  

Grandma was a devoted Christian attending Southside Church of God in Charlottesville. She loved studying the Bible. She was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar and singing gospel music.  

A special thanks to Dr. David Chesler and his staff for their care of Grandma over the years, and the staff of Legacy Hospice.  

A graveside service at Holly Memorial Gardens on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Frazier officiating.
