Velma Mae Allen, 67, of Charlottesville, VA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born on August 12, 1944 in Nottoway, VA to the late Lloyd Johnson and Dorothy Allen.

Mrs. Allen was a devoted mother and grandmother to her loving family. Her sweet nature and tender spirit will be missed by all she knew.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Reed and her husband, Thomas, Jr. of Burkesville, VA, Cynthia Hurt and her husband, George of Lynchburg, VA and Melinda Henry and her husband, Jamal of Charlotte, NC, her grandchildren, Brandon Jackson, Jaquan Andrews, Krystal Jackson, Mycah Henry and Myles Henry and her great grandchild, Kelton Carmichael.

Additional survivors include her twin sister, Thelma Dickerson of Crewe, VA, her sisters, Shirley Gilbert of Chester, PA and Katy Johnson of Maryland and her aunt, Josephine Petty of Brooklyn, NY.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Murray and May Johnson and her brothers, Lloyd Johnson and Robert Johnson.

A homegoing service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 500 Park St. Charlottesville, VA 22902. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30 pm. Childcare will be provided at the church during the funeral service.

.Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

A fellowship service will be held after the interment at 5:30 p.m. at the Parkview Community Room, 210 S. Pantops Dr Charlottesville, VA 22901.
