Tammy Jean Fisher-Shiflett, 53, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2024, surrounded by her family at her home in Dyke, Virginia. She was born on November 27, 1970, to Larry Nelson Fisher and Shelva Jean Fisher of Albemarle County.
Tammy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Walter Harding Herring, and Lillie March Herring; paternal grandparents, Harry Clinton Fisher Sr. and Virginia ‘Merle’ Fisher; and special family friend, Carolyn Taylor.
Graduating from the Virginia Radiologic Technology program in 1994, Tammy enjoyed a fulfilling career as a radiology technician at various healthcare facilities across the Piedmont region. She cherished the friendships she made along the way.
Tammy had a passion for spontaneous drives, whether alone or with loved ones, relishing days without a destination to discover new roads and sights. She eagerly awaited each Spring to tend to her vibrant flower beds and delighted in creating her grand (and admittedly tacky, in her own words) Christmas displays each Winter. Always with a camera around her neck, Tammy captured countless moments of her cherished family and the beauty of her flowers.
She will be remembered through the presence of hummingbirds, the strains of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World," and the sands of the Outer Banks. Her spirit lives on in the cards of Wingspan and the blooms of alstroemeria. Tammy will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
The loves of her life survive Tammy, her children, Matthew (Kristen Green) Shiflett and Katie (Nick Trusty) Shiflett; her beloved family: parents Larry and Jean Fisher; sisters Crystal (Brian) Smith and Linda (Chris) Taylor; her cherished nephews and nieces: Connor and Gavin Smith, and Maddie and Ali Taylor; special Uncle and Aunts Mason and Cindy Fisher and Joyce Roberts; and her life partner and father of her children, Kenny Lee Shiflett Jr. She is also survived by her special girl, Lindsay Newton; family friends Henry and Joyce Smith and Richard Taylor; best friends Anita Estes, Donyll Dameron, and Jan Duffy; her work family Alexis, Kyle, Deanna, and Jessica; and beloved friend Danica Plantz.
A private service to honor Tammy's life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
