Sarah Strother Hill
Sarah Strother Hill, 94, of Stanardsville, VA died on Thursday, September 23, 2011 at her residence. She was born on May 14, 1917 in Madison, VA to the late, Virgil “Bud” and Jenny Banks Strother.
Mrs. Hill was a member of JABA Senior Center and Shiloh Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was very involved in missionary work. She enjoyed gardening, making jewelry, crocheting, quilting and playing the guitar. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile and loving nature.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Josephine Walker of Stanardsville, VA, Jacqueline Walker of Baltimore, MD, Pricilla Webb and her husband, Wayne of Fresno, TX, Calvin C. Hill Jr of Stanardsville, VA and Janice Hunter and her husband, Dominic of Haymarket, VA.
Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Angela Davis, Charles Rhodes, Howard Hammond, Anthony Rhodes, Robin Rhodes, Keisha Rhodes, Edward Walker, Towanda Hammond, Tonya Burns, Kim Walker, Kimball Walker, Anthony Walker, Ashley Wactor, Sierra Hill, Dominic Hunter, Donavan Hunter, Annie White, Letitia Murray and Keith Jackson, two nieces, Vera Ann Simms and Margaret Brock, her nephew, Angelo Pratt and a host of great grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Erma Rhodes, her husband, Calvin Coolidge Hill, step daughter, Ellen Jane Lloyd and 6 siblings, Mollie Faulkner, Caroline Noble, Christine Graves, Leolia Sawyer, Charlie Strother and Alma Fulton.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 26, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Harrison Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Rockhall Cemetery.
