Sallie Collier Breeden
Sallie Collier Breeden, 94, of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Sallie was born on December 29, 1920 in Earlysville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Jesse Edgar Collier and Dora Ann Shifflett Collier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie H. Breeden, who passed away 22 years ago, and cared for by Sallie in their home.
She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Gene Breeden and Robbie Laverty; her brothers, Clarence and Howard Collier; sister, Hattie Collier; and family friend, James Shifflett.
She was a dedicated and active member of the Pine Ridge Church of the Brethren from its inception in the late 1930s. She was always willing to participate in church activities.
She was employed by Sperry for 22 years, retiring in 1980. Some of her favorite times were spent with her family on the farm, tending to cows, making hay and gardening. Sallie enjoyed bowling twice a week until she was 92 years old. Sunday meals were prepared for the family and ready to eat directly after church. Her old fashion cooking was a dash of this and a pinch of that. With the table full of food she’d worry if there was enough for everyone.
Surviving are her children, Audrey Breeden and husband, Amos, of Earlysville, Randolph “Pete” Breeden and wife, Jessica, of Charlottesville, Wilbert Breeden and wife, Susan, of Stanardsville, and Melvin Breeden and wife, Anne, of Charlottesville. The family appreciates caretakers, Mildred Dunnivan, Freda Shifflett, and Brenda Morris, for their love, compassion and friendship during the last year.
