Ruby “Jane” Crickenberger Belew

Ruby Jane Crickenberger Belew, 90, of Charlottesville, VA passed away peacefully at home under the unending love and care of her granddaughter-in-law, Megan Crickenberger on Thursday, April 15, 2021. Born May 17, 1930 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to the late Laurel and John Smith, she was preceded in death by her first love Kendall “Mike” Crickenberger whom she married on August 3, 1946 in Comanche, Oklahoma.  She then remarried Gordon Belew in 1996 who departed her in 2001. She was also preceded by her siblings Brunell Smith, Cleo Smith, Imogene McCoy, Lorene Duncan, Jackie Smith, Peggy Smith, and Charles Smith. She also was preceded by her great grandson, Noah Paul.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Shirley Reeder of Colorado, as well as her five children Glenda Yates (Dick), Stephen K, Glenn D. (Vickie), Joe (Shirlyne), and Anne Taylor. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren andone great-great granddaughter. She also survived her fur pup whom she loved with all her heart, Maggie.

She served as a choir and church member at Bethany Baptist Church. Every person who was in her life felt privileged and blessed to have known her. She was described as a prim and elegant lady who was always dressed up, even when gardening.She was known as the “Chicken Lady” to many. She had her very own bird sanctuary in her yard. She enjoyed her days cooking and spending time with her grandchildren who were her pride and joy.

The Family will be holding a grave side memorial service at Chestnut Grove Baptist Cemetery, Earlysville, VA  on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 2:30PM. We want to ensure that everyone can pay their respects and say their good byes in a safe way. Being outside allows us to gather while social distancing.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont in memory of Jane Belew.
