Roy M. Goolsby, Sr., 76, of Ruckersville, VA passed away on November 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Roy was born December 31, 1941 in North Garden, VA, son of the late Hersey and Bessie Goolsby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Hope Hall Goolsby; three children, Lola Diane Morris (Ronnie), Roy Goolsby, Jr. (Janice) and Sharon Burleson (Bradley); sisters, Middie Hall and Daisy Maupin; grandchildren, Ronnie Morris, Jr. (Candice), Chad Goolsby, Jessica Schramm (Jimmy), Megan Morris (fiancé, Jermaine), Emily Burleson and Dylan Burleson; 11 great-grandchildren, Cailyn Morris, Kinsley Morris, McKinleigh Morris, Harlan Morris, Bella Goolsby, Eddie Goolsby, Dawson Goolsby, David Horne, Hunter Horne, Weston Schramm, and EmmaGayle Schramm; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Emmett Goolsby; sister, Florence “Sissy” Childress; and grandsons, Eddie Goolsby and Shawn Morris.
Roy owned a janitorial service company prior to a career as an auto mechanic.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Apart from spending time with family, he liked to hunt and fish. He was also an avid Washington Redskins fan.
Roy will be missed by a large extended family and remembered for his contagious laughter and overall love of life.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Phillips Cancer Center including Dr. Andrew Romano, Dr. Sylvia Hendricks, nurses Sarah and Mrs. Leake, radiation techs, Bob and Rose and the many nurses in both the oncology and radiation departments. A special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont and in particular, Sally, Cathy, Linda, Molly and Chaplain Compton as well as Dr. William Dandridge, who was Roy’s general physician for many years.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968 with Pastor David Morris officiating.
