Robert Lee Gooding Jr., "Bobby," 87, of Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away surrounded by his daughters on Thursday, September 26. He was born March 4, 1937, in Centreville, Virginia, to the late Robert "Mike" and Cassie Gooding.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Blakey (Butch), Suzanne Lawson (Greg), and Tracey Trevillian (John). In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan Blakey (Jamie), Austen Blakey (Savee), Ben Lawson, Betsy Cates (Dean), Michael Tyndall, Allie Trevillian (Doug), and Tyler Trevillian. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Goolsby; his close friend, Chris Morris; and his seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his son, William Neil Gooding; his daughter, Kimberly Gooding Anderson; and his sisters, Loretta Aylor and Jeanette Watson.
Bobby loved several hobbies: playing bluegrass music, restoring Simplicity lawn tractors, and taking his antique truck to car shows. He had a loving community in each of these hobbies, and they became family to him. His sense of humor and his playfulness will be missed.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Batten Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in Bobby's name.
