Robert Keesee Brooking, 81, of Barboursville, Va., departed this life on Monday, May 11, 2015. Born March 3, 1934, he was the youngest son of John Ezekiel and Mary Lucinda Douglass Brooking.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen “Libby” Richards Brooking; a son, Robert “Bob” Keesee Brooking, Jr. and his wife, Susan; a daughter, Victoria “Vickie” Lynn Brooking; a brother, John Peyton and wife, Jean Hicks Brooking; a sister, Thyrza Brooking McCauley; two grandchildren, Connor Keesee and Nathan Joseph Brooking; a brother-in-law, Carlos Coggins whose love and concern for Keesee in his last days was immeasurable; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia “Jenny” Brooking Coggins.

Keesee began a 45 year career with the same company in Charlottesville, first in the maintenance department of U.S. Instruments and ultimately retiring as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer of its successor company, Comdial. He was instrumental in the design and manufacturing process of many components of the company’s telecommunications systems.

While working for U.S. Instruments, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army and spent time in Germany, before returning to his job in Charlottesville where he met the company’s young, beautiful receptionist named Libby. They married in 1960.

He was a member of the Barboursville Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

For many years, Keesee enjoyed raising feeder pigs and maintaining a large vegetable garden in addition to his full time career. He loved to share the bounty with his family, friends and neighbors. He will be best remembered for his abilities to build or repair just about anything around his home and farm. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his longtime friend and coworker, Ken Loftin, of Charlottesville.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 14, 2015. from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.

A private family graveside service will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 1540 Insurance Lane. Charlottesville, VA 22911.
