Richard Earl Breeden

June 9, 1940 — August 7, 2015

Richard Earl “Goofy” Breeden, 75, of Stanardsville, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015, at his home, after complications with diabetes.

He was born on June 9, 1940, a son of the late Claude Jackson Breeden and Hilda Gray Breeden of Stanardsville. Also waiting for him in heaven are his brother, Carroll, and his infant sister, Frances.

Richard had a great love for the outdoors, camping in his younger years, helping out on the farm, going hunting and fishing, and just hanging out with his nephew, David, whom he loved like a son, was his favorite past-times. Richard was a former employee of Randall Frey Furniture Reproductions in Stanardsville with many years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army with honorable discharge in 1965. Richard lived with and was cared for by members of his family his entire life after military as he was a person who was loved by all that knew him. He will be sorely missed and remembered by all that knew him.

He is survived by his sisters, Norma Breeden and husband, Shirley, of Stanardsville; Dolly Morris of Charlottesville; and his younger sister and very special caregiver, Frances Snow and her husband, Delma, of Stanardsville. He is also survived by nephews, Donald Breeden and his wife, Angela, of Madison, David Breeden and his wife, Angela, of Stanardsville; nieces, Dana Hubbard and Paul Jordan of Stanardsville, Carole Mundie of Charlottesville and Crystal Lamb and her husband, Billy, of Ruckersville; great-nephews and nieces, Michael Hubbard and wife, Jessica, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Curtis Mundie and wife, Lindsay, Jonathan Hubbard of Stanardsville, William “W.J.” Lamb of Ruckersville, Katelyn Hunt of Charlottesville, Leanna Lamb of Ruckersville and Samantha Breeden of Madison; one great-great-nephew, Lane Hubbard of Texas; and two on the way. As requested by the family, there will be no formal visitation. A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015, at the Breeden Family Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his mother, father, brother and sister. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, VA 22973 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312
