Rebecca Batten Spencer, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her Ruckersville, Virginia, home on August 8, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on October 7, 1951, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Harold Batten and Mary Beasley Batten.
Rebecca is reunited in eternal rest with her brother-in-law, Neil Rex Spencer, and sister-in-law, Penny Diane Maupin (Robbie). She leaves behind her devoted husband of nearly 51 years, Jessie Lee Spencer; her treasured son, Barry Lee Spencer, and wife, Shawn; and her beloved grandchildren, Julian Evan Backe and Eric Lee Spencer. Rebecca is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robbie Spencer (Ginger), and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember her with profound affection.
Known affectionately as Becky, she was a source of warmth and joy to all who knew her. Becky was even titled the BEST mother-in-law by her BEST daughter-in-law – a running joke that will live on forever. Her genuine kindness and caring nature were evident in her role as a teacher’s assistant for Greene County Public Schools, where she touched the lives of countless students with her dedication and compassion. Becky’s love for her family was unwavering, and she created countless cherished memories with them, especially on trips to Myrtle Beach. She was also known for her passion for shopping and fashion, always taking pride in her appearance and enjoying an iced cold Dr. Pepper after a day of retail therapy.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Becky’s life and legacy at Batten Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating.
Becky’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit and kindness will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
We have set up an online guestbook at www.battenfuneral.com for those who wish to share their memories of Becky or express their condolences. Your words will be a source of comfort and strength for the family during this time.
