Peggy Harlow Powell, 89, of Ruckersville, Virginia died at her home on January 30, 2021.
She was born June 17, 1931, daughter of the late Maude Watson, but was reared by her grandparents, Rosser and Effie Harlow, whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her mother and grandparents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Powell; brother, Charles “Buddy”; and brother-in-law, Harry Marrs.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Judy H. Lamb (Floyd Elmer); sons, Gary Harlow (Jeanie) and Michael Harlow (Terry) whom she lived with for many years.
She is also survived by her grandson, Jason Harlow (Amy), and their daughters, McKenzie and Ava; her “Angel,” granddaughter, Meghann Gregory (Mike) and their daughter, Lacie all of Ruckersville; special stepdaughter, Margo Miller (Bill) and their sons, Ashley (Cheryl) and Cameron; step-grandsons, Brett and Justin of Afton; sister, Jean Marrs; nephews, Sammy Hughes (Lisa) and Charles Watson; niece, Rebecca Mouberry (James); great-nieces, Samantha and Lauren Hughes, McKenzie Mouberry; great-nephew, Trey Hicks (Iris) of Texas; special cousin, Ethel Kettlewell of Stanardsville, who was like a sister.
Mom loved to cook; feeding anyone that came in hungry-young or old. Her sons’ friends especially loved her fried rabbit, gravy, mashed potatoes, and homemade biscuits. Elmer loved her fried fish, cornbread, and her rice pudding, that she made just for him. But most of all, we all loved Mom with her smile, her laugh, her little jokes, and the way she truly cared for others. We will miss you for the rest of our lives, but we know it was time for God to take you home. You were cared for so lovingly for the last seven years of your life by our angel, Meghann, who made everything so much more bearable for you even when glaucoma robbed you of your sight, taking away your reading and your puzzles that you enjoyed so much. Meghann, you were the high point of her days.
