Otha Raymond Eppard

Otha Raymond Eppard, 89, of Stanardsville died on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born on October 20, 1921 in Rockingham County to the late Lester and Minnie Breeden Eppard.

Mr. Eppard was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country during WWII. He married the love of his life, Nita and together they raised six children. He was very skilled in woodwork and was always building something whether it was picture frames, book cases, bird houses or even homes. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting but most of all his family. He was a loving husband for 67 years a devoted father and a caring grandfather who will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his wife, Nita and six children, Elizabeth Morris and her husband, Bobby, Patricia Breeden and her husband, Leroy, Joan McGowan, Otha Eppard, Jr., Wendell Kelly Eppard and his wife, Judy and Mary Jane Peyton and her husband, Buggs all of Stanardsville.

Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Brian Morris, Brad Morris, Timmy Breeden, Teresa Breeden, Cindy Weatherford, Kimberly Shifflett, Patrick McGowan, Dustin Eppard, Heather Eppard, Nicky Eppard, Alicia Eppard, Ashley Morris, Nicholas Eppard, Cheryl Shiflett, and Scott Peyton, 16 great grandchildren, Hannah, Haley and Makayla Morris, Michael Breeden, Paige and Kaleigh Breeden, Chanda and Shayne Gilbert, Holden and Brendan Shifflett, Timberley and Taylor Eppard, Logan and Kendall Morris, Campbell and Bailey Shiflett and two great-great grandchildren, Madison and Marleigh Brinson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Burness, Cletus, and Retus Eppard and two sisters, Alice Mosley and Hazel Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968 with Rev. Will Dyer officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Greene County Rescue Squad, PO Box 302 Stanardsville, VA 22973.
