Oland William Root
Oland William Root, 85, of Greene County Ruckersville died on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Evergreen Meadows Nursing Home in Stanardsville.
He was born on July 31, 1925 in Greene Co. He was the son of the late John Samuel and Mary Riner Root.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maude Root Herring and Hallie Pearl Root.
He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Margie Root Norford and her husband, Mannie W. Norford, Jr, his beloved brother-in-law. His nephew Richard M. Norford and his wife, Kay. Two nieces, Faye Norford and Penny Norford. A great niece, Wendy Tonker and a great nephew, Bobby Tonker.
He was a graduate of William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, VA. He served his country during World War II, stationed in Japan and the Philippine Islands and was honorably discharged. Mr. Root was a lifetime member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and was employed for many years as a textile worker. After his retirement he spent some of his time farming.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Carlton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow in Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to the staff at Evergreen Meadows.
