Norma Jean Jarrell

Norma Jean Jarrell lived a blessed, full, and healthy life. She departed from this world on March 29, 2024, after a very brief illness. She was born on April 19, 1934, to the late John and Lessie Breeden. Norma was just shy of celebrating 90 years devoted to family, church, and community service.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lynn Early Jarrell; sister, Aleene Frances Teel; and brother, Laymon Franklin Breeden.

The love of her family surrounded her: her son, James Malcolm Jarrell; her daughter, Brenda Lynn Jarrell (Jim Call); niece Diane Ferguson and family; granddaughters, Megan Kathleen Dickson (Spencer) and Sydne Ann Curry (Tommy); two great-grandchildren, Emmett James Dickson, and her namesake Quinnlyn Jean Dickson; and an extended family of nieces and nephews.

Norma worked 49 years at State Farm Insurance Company in Charlottesville, Virginia, and loved keeping busy by cooking, gardening, and canning her freshly picked vegetables to stock the pantries of family and friends. After retirement, Norma devoted her time to volunteering at the Greene County Food Pantry and Stanardsville United Methodist Church Tuesday’s Table, and she continued to be a devoted member of South River United Methodist Church.

Rev. Ed Winkler will conduct a graveside service on Thursday, April 4, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.

Following the service, the family invites you to celebrate Norma’s life at Blue Ridge Café in Ruckersville from noon until 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice in honor of Norma’s generous spirit.
