After a weary struggle with Alzheimer’s, Maxine Melinda Durrer, 91, of Ruckersville passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
She was the daughter of the late Gentry Rector and Minnie Dellinger Rector.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Malcolm N. Durrer.
She is survived by her nieces, Doris R. Watts, Lisa R. Lackey and Carla S. Frungillo; nephews, Larry Rector, Hayden Rector, Ricky Rector, Michael Rector and Clyde Fox; great nieces, Anne W. Grassler, Sharon R. Anderson, Connie Fox and Donna Lackey; great nephews, Franklin G. Watts and Rodney Rector; great great niece, Sarah A. Munsey, who was like a granddaughter. Maxine loved being called “Gigi” and being a grandmother.
Maxine left Taylorsville, North Carolina at the age of 17 to work for the telephone company in Washington, D.C. and retired with her husband, Malcolm to the family farm in Ruckersville, Virginia. She traveled the world to the places she read about in books. She loved to garden, feed the birds especially bluebirds, cook, bake and look out at the Blue Ridge of Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
