Mavis Vernell Collins
Mavis Vernell Collins, 73, of Stanardsville, VA a twenty year survivor of Lymphoma Cancer died unexpectedly on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center of a stomach aneurysm. She was born on January 16, 1939 in Charlottesville, VA to the late George Alex Morris and Ethel Jane Shifflett Morris.
She was a life-long member of Evergreen Church of the Brethren at Dyke where she sang in the church choir for many years. Her greatest love was the Lord Jesus Christ and her family. She found great joy in attending Thursday morning Bible Study at her sisters home and she made many lasting friendships there. She loved being outdoors working in her yard and her greatest indoor activity was reading her Bible and humming her beloved hymns.
Vernell is survived by her son, Luke Bradford Collins and his wife, Rachel of Crozet and seven granddaughters, Caitlin, Amanda, Megan, Taylor, McKenzie, Casey Jane and Elizabeth Collins all of Crozet.
Additional survivors include four siblings, Evelyn Harlow and her husband, Jake of Stanardsville, Janice Grimsby and her husband, Sam of Ruckersville, Ronald Morris and his wife, Aubrey of Stanardsville, and Bobby Morris and his wife, Elizabeth of Stanardsville, two Aunts, Chris Zuzga and Agnes Shifflett and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Toby Collins.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Church of the Brethren with Rev. C.C. Kurtz officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
