Marie Mathieu Kostelac

Marie Mathieu Kostelac, 83, of Earlysville, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born on May 22, 1937 in Trochu, Alberta Canada to the late Dominique and Mary Elizabeth Mathieu.

Marie served in the Canadian Air Force and met her husband, Tom at Goose Bay Labrador Air Force Base. She was a proud Canadian and maintained her citizenship after moving to the states. She was strong willed and worked fiercely as an advocate for causes like the Women’s Movement among countless others. Her happy disposition and smile would light a room but above all, her heart was devoted to prayerfully cherishing her family and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas; children, Michael Thomas (Tracie), Dominique Joseph (Rachel), Darlene Marie (Edward) and Thomas Anthony (Katarina); siblings, Sharon, Joseph and Gwenda; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald and Thelma.

A memorial mass will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Church of the Incarnation, 1465 Incarnation Drive Charlottesville, VA 22901.  Interment will follow at the family residence.
