Lorene Baugher

Lorene May Baugher, 92, of Stanardsville passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at Grace Health and Rehab.
Lorene was born May 19, 1923 , daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Miller May. She was the second daughter in the family and her father, wanting a son, gave her the interesting nickname of “Bill,” which many family members and friends called her throughout her life. She was lifelong member of Swift Run Baptist Church, were she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active in the church’s ministry throughout her life. She was also a graduate of William Monroe High School and attended her 70th class reunion in 2010.
Lorene was preceded in death by husband of 62 years, Elmer R. Baugher. They owned and operated Baugher’s Service Station on Route 33 in Stanardsville for 31 years. She also worked for Stromberg-Carlson and the Greene County Primary School.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ray E. Baugher; a brother, Wallace E. May; a sister, Merval “Polly” Brill and two sons-in-law, Clifton R. “Bootsie” Butler and Vincent Wayne Dean.
She is survived by two daughters, Faye B. Dean and Shirley B. Butler, both of Stanardsville; two granddaughters, Dana B. Garrard and her husband, Knight of Lynchburg and Audra B. Taylor and her husband, Chris of Ruckersville; a grandson, Shannon D. Dean of Stanardsville; two great-granddaughters, Katherine and Kara Taylor; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Taylor and Paden Garrard; a daughter-in-law, Karen M. Baugher; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Haney and Rebecca May.
Lorene was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia with the Rev. Mark Holder officiating. Interment will be held at Stanardsville Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Lorene’s memory to the Swift Run Baptist Church Building Fund, 12340 Spotwood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968
