Lee Smith Estes
Lee Smith Estes, 87, of Ruckersville passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Lee was born May 21, 1924 in Albemarle County, Virginia, son of the late Willie Lee Estes and Lutie Fray Estes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nora Ward Estes, and Nephew Bill Ward and wife Linda Ward of North Carolina, Niece Bonnie Fitzgerald of Charlottesville, Bernice Patterson of Maryland, Godchild Rebecca Waters and three great nephews Jeffery and Chris Ward of North Carolina, and Todd Ward of Virginia.
Lee was a lifelong member of Spring Hill Baptist Church serving as the church treasurer for 25 years, church trustee, deacon and Royal Ambassador youth group teacher.
He retired from State Farm Insurance with 35 years of service as an Assistant Supervisor of Administration.
Lee was appointed by the Greene County Circuit Court to serve as the tiebreaker for the Board of Supervisors for two terms. He served on the Central Virginia Regional Jail Board Authority for over 15 years. Lee also served on the Board for the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative from 1975-2010. As well as serving on the Jefferson Board for Aging and the Baptist Retirement Home Board.
Lee proudly served his country in the United States Marines.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Carlton, Rev. Leroy Davis, Rev. John Green and Rev. Bill Sherfy officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Spring Hill Baptist Church.
