Kathleen Sullivan Vernon

Kathleen Marie Sullivan Vernon, 86, of Dyke, Virginia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, in Madison, Virginia, with her loved ones by her side. Kathleen was born on September 6, 1938, in Charlottesville, VA. She was the daughter of the late Newman Sullivan and Mary Rene Herring. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Vernon, sisters, and one brother, Hattie Davis, Lucille Morris, Ethel Sullivan, and Oscar Sullivan. 

Kathleen is survived by her son, Alvin Vernon (Sandy) of Dyke; Grandson, Alvin Vernon Jr. (Amanda) of Dyke; Great-grandchildren, Heidi Vernon and Kylie Vernon of Dyke; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and other special family members and friends, including one very special friend John Brown. 

Kathleen worked at Panorama for numerous years until she retired to take care of her late husband, Clifford Vernon. Kathleen loved spending time with family (especially her grandchildren), which included traveling and going on a memorable vacation every year, which she always looked forward to doing. Kathleen also enjoyed knitting and sewing, and she made numerous blankets for the family that will be passed down for generations to come. Kathleen also enjoyed baking; she would be found making cakes, pies, and everything in between in the kitchen. 

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Batten Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Greg Payne and Craig Snow. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Garden. 

We want to say a special thank you to Bill and Barbara Robbins for opening their home to Kathleen and the rest of the family and helping take such great care of her. We would also like to thank their daughters, Cassidy Dudding and Virginia Hess, for their tremendous help in caring for Kathleen, as well as Hospice of the Piedmont. We are beyond thankful and would not have been able to keep Kathleen as comfortable and well taken care of without them.
