Kathleen Donnelly

July 24, 1916 — August 12, 2011

Kathleen Estelle Estes Donnelly went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, on August 12, 2011.

Born July 24, 1916, in Ruckersville, Virginia, Mrs. Donnelly was one of twelve children of the late Angus C. and Minta Deane Estes.

Mrs. Donnelly resided in Ruckersville until she graduated in 1933 as valedictorian from William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, Virginia. After graduation, she attended Strayer Business College in Washington, DC.

On April 4, 1942, she married James Francis Donnelly.

The Donnelly’s were employed by the Federal Government and resided in the Northern Virginia area except during Mr. Donnelly’s years of military service. After his death in November 2003, Mrs. Donnelly moved to Our Lady of Peace Retirement Home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

She was a long time member of Glencarlyn Road Baptist Church in Falls Church, Virginia, where she enjoyed working with the children for 25 years. She was also active in many other church and community ministries.

Mrs. Donnelly enjoyed a variety of creative hobbies. Her yard was abloom with flowers that she arranged for her church and for flower shows for many years. She tried her hand at painting, but is best known for her hand-decorated eggs.

She leaves to remember her a sister-in-law, Jeanne Donnelly Brennan, and two brothers-in-law, Ed Donnelly and his wife, Terry, and Otto J. Parrott, Jr. Surviving are also many nieces and nephews with special memories of “Aunt Kathleen” as well as many friends she made during her life.

Services are to be held at Ryan Funeral Home in Quinque, Virginia, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16. Interment will be at Ruckersville Community Cemetery, land for which was donated by her parents in 1928. Family will receive friends on Monday evening, August 15 between 6:00 and 8:00 at Ryan Funeral Home.
