Jurene Morris, 74, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at the University of Virginia Medical Center with her family at her side.
She had been a resident of the Evergreen Nursing Home where she will be missed by many friends and staff.
In addition to her parents, Robert Lee and Fannie Virginia Morris, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Morris and Arlene Shifflett.
Jurene was born July 11, 1936, in Greene County. She was the oldest of 14 children. As a youth she attended the Virginia School of the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, Virginia.
She will be remembered for her childlike spirit and the unconditional love that she gave to those around her. Throughout her life she enjoyed being with and taking care of children. She served as a caretaker of her younger siblings and for a number of nieces and nephews.
Jurene is survived by five sisters, Lois Raines and husband, Jack, of Ruckersville, Shirley Flora of Schuyler, Hazel Shifflett of Dyke, Doris Shifflett and husband, David, of Stanardsville, Ruby Martin of Culpeper, her six brothers Elvin Morris and wife, Helen, of Stanardsville, Dilmer “Ray” Morris and wife, Sylvia, of Earlysville, Charles Morris and wife, Linda, of Stanardsville, Franklin Morris and wife, Donna, of Dyke, Kenneth Morris and wife, Tanya, of Stanardsville, Greg Morris and companion, Barbara, of Dyke, and twenty-eight nieces and nephews.
The family extends deepest gratitude for the loving care given by the staff at the University of Virginia Hospital and also to the many friends who have provided support in a multitude of ways.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Church of the Brethren. Interment will follow in the nearby Mt. Olivet Cemetery. After which, a reception will be held in the cultural hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, 514 East Beverly Street, Staunton, Virginia, 24401.
