Joseph Franklin Thompson

Joseph “Papa Joe” Franklin Thompson, 80, of Stanardsville, Virginia passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Joe was born on April 20, 1942 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginny” Faye Sexton Thompson.

Joe is survived by his children, Troy Thompson of Plantation, Florida, Tommy Darnell (Dee), Kathy Darnell and Kim Wood (David); grandchildren, Chasity Meade, Samantha Dameron, Kerri Moxley, Cheyanne Collier, Baylor Darnell, Cody Wood and Kelsey Moxley; and 14 very special great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by special friends, Ray, Angela and Tanner Putnam, C.J., Danielle and Avery Durrer, Irene Knill and James DuPont.

Joe “Papa Joe” loved restoring classic and antique cars, fishing and coffee. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Precious.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery at a later date.
