John L. Taylor, 92, of Ruckersville, VA passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home. He was born on August 24, 1931, to the late Roy Stanley Taylor and Ella Pearl Taylor. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary S. Taylor of 58 years, two sons, Larry L. Taylor and Donald C. Taylor, one brother Curtis Taylor, and three sisters, Lena Taylor, Viola Hubbard, and Shirley Fox.
John is survived by his three daughters, Debbie Vilga (Joe) of Orange, Janet Taylor of Madison, and Donna Taylor of Ruckersville, two sons Mark Taylor (Pam) of Orange and John Taylor (Becky) of Elkton, two sisters Ruby Christmas of Scottsville and Nancy Breeden of Madison, ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1951-1954. He later worked various jobs as a logger, security guard, painter, and at Jim Carpenter Lumber yard for many years. He also served as a deacon at the Shiloh Church of the Brethren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He loved being with his family and spending time outdoors.
He will truly be missed and will forever be in our hearts. We would like to thank Dr. Justin Mutter, his team, and Hospice of the Piedmont for their care. A special thank you to Joyce, Jaleesa, Chris, and Ruby Jean for all their help and support.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Batten Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Batten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Glenn Shifflett and Robert Wescoat officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
