John Henry Shifflett

John Henry Shifflett, 85, of Stanardsville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 13, 2020. He was born on July 28, 1934 in Albemarle County, to the late William and Altha Lam Shifflett.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Conley and David Gardner; and son, Wayne Shifflett. In addition to his children, he is survived by grandchildren Nicole Miller; Danny Shifflett and fiancé Charity Wood; Brittnee Canosa and husband Joseph Canosa; Whitney Conley and Daniel Lamm; and Shannia Conley and Ray Taylor. He is also survived by five great grandchildren Bradley, Avril, Harper, Brantlee, and Lily; and his sister, Ethel Pugh.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Shifflett; and his siblings Melvin Shifflett, Leona Shifflett, Clara Shifflett, Elvin Shifflett, Cleveland Shifflett, William Edward  “Eddie Boy” Shifflett,  James Alvin Shifflett, and Emma Mae Morris.

Our Grandad was a funny, loving, and kind man who knew no stranger. There was hardly a time when he wasn’t keeping the whole family laughing with his sassy comments, even up until his last days. He lived for the days when he could rabbit hunt and shoot pool with friends; watch NASCAR as close to the tv as possible; and spend time in his best dressed at Great Value, talking with almost everyone that went in. For those of you that made time to make him smile or just say hi, we thank you. Your words, your time, your stories meant the world to him and kept his days full of life and laughter. For that, we cannot thank you enough. His smiling face will surely be missed, especially while driving down 810.

We would like to thank the University of Virginia Surgical Intensive Care Unit for taking such good care of him his last few days.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, January, 16th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Road, Dyke, VA 22935.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17th at 11 a.m. at Nortonsville Church of God with Pastor David Allison officiating.

A private graveside service for immediate family only will be officiated by Pastor Eddie Byers.
