Joel W. Hoffman, 84, of Ruckersville passed away peacefully May 28, 2017.
He was born March 4, 1933, son of the late William and Elve Hoffman.
Joel is survived by his sister, Maxine Hauble; his children, Jerry Hoffman (Danielle), Jeanette McCauley (John), Phyllis Shifflett (Dale), and Tom Hoffman (Denise); twelve grandchildren, Josh, Joe, Jessica, Justin, Jonathan, Kenny, Kyle, Kristen, Grant, Alex, Bryce and Paige; and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Darlene Hoffman; brother, Loran Hoffman; and sister, Elsie Luedtke.
He attended Grantsburg High School, where he played numerous sports and took great pride in be a “Pirate.” He attended Riverfalls College where he played football. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1963.
Joel volunteered on many occasions and loved to make a difference. He built the first dugouts at the Greene County Youth Center, built the Greene SPCA and helped anyone in need. He proudly owned and operated his own business, Joel Hoffman Construction.
He especially enjoyed summer trips with the family to Wisconsin. He supported his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their sports activities and events. This gave him great happiness. He will be remembered as an amazing, caring, and loving father, grandfather and as a good friend to all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Joel’s home, 2663 Welsh Run Road, Ruckersville.
