Jimmie Ray Bailey, 68, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jimmie was born January 29, 1943 in Antlers, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late William A. Bailey and Ruby Thompson Bailey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy A. Bailey.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 31 years, Chin Kyu Bailey; two sons, William A. Bailey and his wife, Melanie of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Kelley L. Bailey of Gainesville, Florida; one stepson, Charlie Franklin of Sacramento, California; one stepdaughter, Monica Franklin of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; two grandsons, William D. Bailey and Matthew M. Bailey; three granddaughters, Sydney M. Bailey, Clare M. Bailey and Johana Franklin.
He is also survived by four sisters, Phyllis A. Williams of Kansas, Joyce K. Blankenship of Texas, Patsy J. Womack also of Kansas and Donna J. Summer of Florida.
Jimmie is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country with 27 years of service. He was a retired teacher from Spotswood High School and Elkton Middle School. Jimmie owned and operated Peyton’s Store in Stanardsville.
Jimmie enjoyed fishing, old cars and coaching little league baseball.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church, 5401 Watts Passage, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church, 5401 Watts Passage, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911 with the Rev. Wendell Lamb and Rev. Byung Ju.
In accordance with Jimmie’s wishes, his body will be cremated and his cremated remains will be scattered at sea at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Korean Church Building Fund, 3045 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903.
