Jim K. Mathis
Jim K. Mathis, 87, of Stanardsville passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Virginia Beach.
He was born on June 28, 1926 in Ola, Arkansas, son of the late Louis Mathis and Louisa Eden Mathis.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mathis; one son, Louie Benton; three sisters; and three brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Tancredi and her husband, Rudolph of Virginia Beach; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Benton of Stanardsville; a brother-in-law, Dan Carr and his wife, Janet of Florida; two grandsons, Douglas Tancredi and his wife, Jeannie and Kenneth Tancredi and his wife, Michelle all of Virginia Beach; three great granddaughters, Megan Tancredi, Rae Tancredi and Mallory Whitehurst; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim served his country in the United States Navy.
He was a retired police officer with the Norfolk Police Department. Jim was also retired from J.C. Penney in Charlottesville. He was a member of Swift Run Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Ruckersville Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Holder and Rev. Dan Carr officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia.
