Jennifer Leigh Story

August 11, 1965 — February 9, 2025

Charlottesville

With deep sadness, her family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Jennifer Leigh (nee Callaghan) Story, 59, on February 9, 2025. Jennifer was a beloved mother, Mimi, sister, aunt, and friend, and her sudden passing has immensely impacted those who loved her. Jennifer was born on August 11, 1965, to Richard Stephen Callaghan Jr. and Violet Anne (nee Maxwell) Maupin in Charlottesville, VA, where she was raised for much of her childhood.

In her early 20s, she moved to Sarasota, Florida, where she married the father of her daughters, Sammie and Betsy. Not long after, Jennifer and her family returned to her native Virginia, where she remained until her passing. Jennifer was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was extremely proud of her family. She was described by those who loved her as devoted, selfless, loving, outgoing, and always willing to help someone in need. She had a very special bond with her daughters and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, Richard Stephen Callaghan Jr., mother, Violet Anne (nee Maxwell) Maupin, stepmother Mary Lynn (nee Warren) Callaghan, and stepfather Vernon Maupin.

She is survived by her daughters, Samantha Ulrope and Betsy Ulrope of Charlottesville, VA; sister, Susan Callaghan Beaty of Vienna, VA; nephew, Ryan Ferguson of Arlington, VA; stepdaughter and her husband, Katie (nee Story) Bailey and Trent Bailey of Free Union, VA, and grandchildren, Savannah Lam, Hunter Bailey, Ashby Burgess, Allie Burgess, and Harper Bailey.

Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and although gone from sight, Jennifer’s memory will never leave the hearts of those who loved her. A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held at a later date with family and friends. To honor Jennifer’s previous feat of beating breast cancer, and in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
