Jean Douglass Blakey

January 28, 1935 — August 3, 2016

Jean Douglass Blakey died Wednesday morning, August 3rd, 2016. Born January 28th, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Grimsley Douglass and Ruby Durrer Douglass. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Zirkle “Booster” Blakey.

She is survived by two sisters; Marianne Gross and Betty Drueke. She is also survived by her two sons, Zirkle Blakey III and his wife Laurie, and Robert Neal Blakey and his wife Tammy; two grandchildren Mary Beth Blakey and her husband Robert Dimitri, and Nathaniel Jennings Blakey.

Jean was Miss Greene County in 1952, but ultimately became a prominent figure in local politics, serving as mayor of Stanardsville, as well as on the zoning board. She was also a board member for the Jefferson Madison Regional Library.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the care extended by Hospice of the Piedmont/Rapidan and the staff of Our Lady of Peace.

Reverend Chuck Winner will officiate the service to be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Burial at the Stanardsville Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Stanardsville Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 37, Stanardsville, VA. 22973, or to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
