James Davis Taylor

James Davis Taylor, better known to us as “Goat”, 82, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away on November 6, 2023, at the Center for Acute Hospice Care.

He was born on October 29, 1941, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was the son of the late Dave Snow and Nellie Moore Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mattie Hall Taylor.

James is survived by his son, Mark Taylor; two sisters, Pearline, and Maxine; three grandchildren, Mason, Madison, and Marlena Taylor; two sister-in-laws, Bernice Palmer and Margaret Engle; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hall; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Goat was a graduate of William Monroe High School, and a member of First Bible Baptist Church. He worked at Crouse-Hinds Company for over 30 years before retiring as a plant supervisor. He loved the thrill of riding rollercoasters, was a shark on the pool table, and watched every Yankee game played.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 10-11 a.m. at Batten Funeral Home. A service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
