James C. “Jimmy” Morris
James C. “Jimmy” Morris, 63, of Dyke went to be the Lord Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his home after an 18 month battle with cancer surrounded by his family.
Jimmy was born October 4, 1948, the son of the late Clayton Morris.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gilbert and Nellie Shifflett, who he called his Mom and Dad; three brothers, Wilmer, Earl and Donnie; a sister, Betty; special aunts preceding him in death were Addie Knight, Cynthia Shifflett, Ruby Dodson; and an uncle Henry Shifflett.
He is survived by his mother, Mamie Morris of Shelby.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Doris Morris; his son, Jay and his wife, Denise; a daughter, Teresa Batten and her husband, Dwayne.
Jimmy also leaves four grandchildren, Jamie, Justin, Landen and Jaylene who will always remember and love their PaPa.
Additional survivors include his brothers, Junior Morris, David and his wife, Dorothy of Rochelle; two stepsisters, Glenice and Gina; two uncles, Buddy Knight and Fred Shifflett.
He also leaves to cherish his memory two special cousins, Linda Knight and Linda Faye Shifflett. They were very dear and devoted to Jimmy and his family during his illness and in his final days.
Jimmy retired from the City of Charlottesville-Waste Water Division with 34 years of service. After retiring he worked part-time for Ryan Funeral Home.
He was a member of the Country Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed hunting, the mountains and cruising about in his classic cars.
The family would like to remember his “garage buddies,” Stuart and Wayne Hixon, Dickey and Jamie Shifflett and special friends who spent countless hours hunting and all of his classic car buddies.
The family would also like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. John McGovern, Dr. Gordon Morris, the Martha Jefferson Hospital Oncology and Infusion Center, especially Mike, and to Hospice of the Piedmont and their nurses Judy, Rebecca, Sherry and Kathy.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Evergreen Church of the Brethren, 645 Evergreen Church Road, Dyke with the Rev. C.C. Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
At Jimmy’s request, he would appreciate all of his friends to drive their classic (antique) vehicles to his service.
