James "Jimmy" Elijah Shifflett

James “Jimmy” Elijah Shifflett (80), of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away on March 31, 2024, surrounded by those he loved dearly and stepped into the light of God’s loving presence.  

Jimmy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 29, 1943, to the late Orvin and Neva Shiflett. He met the love of his life, Betty, in high school and married her on December 21, 1963.  He served two years in the Navy, which included an assignment on an icebreaker in Antarctica.  In his free time, he took flying lessons, ran a farm, cherished playing cards with friends, loved watching NASCAR and UVA sports, and was an avid reader.  He started JES Electric and built it into a thriving company that he passed on to his son. The farm, where he and Betty called home for fifty-five years, was where he found tremendous joy. This is where he passed on his knowledge of hunting, fishing, and farming to his children and grandchildren.  Jimmy demonstrated the values of love, strength, passion, and hard work and instilled them in his children.   

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty Herring Shifflett. They had four children: Martin (Laura), Ashley (Doug), Stacey (Bradley), and Suzy (Chris). They have seven grandchildren whom he adored: Gabe, Eli, Elle, Owen, Sam, Alex and Anna. He is also survived by his sisters JoAnn and Cindy (Wes).  Jimmy deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, countless extended family members, and friends. 

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for him, specifically Evan Pryse, NP.

The family will accept family and friends at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Chestnut Grove Church, 550 Buck Mountain Rd, Earlysville, Virginia, with a celebration of life immediately following at 12 p.m.
