James Howe Dechent, 85, of Richmond, VA died on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center. He was born on March 12, 1925 in Chicago, IL to the late Herman and Noli Winifred Burt Dechent.
Mr. Dechent was a veteran of the 5th Division 28th Regiment of the United States Marines Corp, serving his country during the battle of Iwa Jima, where he was wounded on March 9, 1945.
He is survived by his brothers, H. Arthur Dechent, Jr. and his wife, Anne of Ruckersville, William Dechent of Richmond, and Ernest Dechent and his wife, Lois of Fallston, NC, his sister in law, Joyce D. Young of Raleigh, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Louis Dechent.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with his brother, Pastor Arthur Dechent officiating.
Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by the United States Marine Corp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Dechent’s name to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Love Outreach, 252 Blue Ridge Dr, Orange, VA 22960.00
