James Franklin “Buddy” Knight
James Franklin “Buddy” Knight, 77, of Dyke, VA passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Grace Health and Rehab of Greene County. He was born on October 3, 1938 in Dyke, VA to the late James Clyde Knight and Matilda Williams Knight.
Buddy was a lifetime member of Dyke Fire Department, retired from the City of Charlottesville Parks and Rec after 34 years and in 1964 joined Ryan Funeral Home where he worked in many capacities. He was an excellent gardener who loved planting flowers, fruits and vegetables. His hands were made of steel and his unwavering strength kept him working his entire life to provide for his family. Buddy was a gentle giant with a heart full of love. His humor, love, compassion and contagious smile will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Earl Wayne Morris and his wife, Helen of Dyke, Lois Richards and her husband, Billy of Dyke, Linda Knight of Dyke and Florence Dorrier and her husband, Ronnie of Scottsville; sisters, Ruby Shifflett, Ruth Knight and Ida Smith; brother, Larry Knight; his grandchildren, Thomas Wayne Mallory and Sandy, Kevin Morris, Christopher Richards and Whitney Clay; 6 great grandchildren, Skyler, Garrett and Logan Morris, Mckenzie, Chase and Taylor Mallory; his sister-in-law, Eva Knight; his faithful companion, Bailey who he called his little boy; and his friends at Ryan Funeral Home who he considered family.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Addie Shifflett Knight; siblings, Mary Betty Knight, Maytriss Ramey, Dorothy Lawson, Aubrey Knight, Sherman Knight, George Knight, Roman Knight, Elden Knight and Kenny Knight; and his granddaughter, Crystal Morris.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Grace Health and Rehab for their love, support and compassion.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Church with Rev. C. C. Kurtz officiating. Upon Buddy’s request, his casket will be adorned with 77 roses, one for every year of his life.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
