Herbert Lee Shifflett
Herbert Lee Shifflett, 90, of Stanardsville passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 at his home on South River, Stanardsville, VA. He was born on July 19, 1924 in Dyke VA to the late Charles and Quickie Shifflett.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl and Margaret and brothers, Allen, Russell, Randolph, Clarence, Elbert and Roy, beloved nieces, Teresa and Beverly and nephews, Christopher Taylor, Rickey, Donnie and Ronnie.
He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews, June Shifflett and her husband, Ronnie of South River, Linda and Ronnie Banks, Debbie and Mike Bunch, Deana and Ronald Parrott, Kathleen Collier, Brenda Shifflett, Joyce and Billy Estes, Wanda and Kevin Hedges, Shirley and Walter Haney, Diane and Jerry Drew, Angela and Irvin Shifflett, Ann and Randolph Shifflett, Doris Jean and David Hyatt, Franklin and Glenna Shifflett, Rodger and Doris Shifflett, Danny and Patti Shifflett, Dale and Phyllis Shifflett, Sterling and Geraldine Shifflett, David and Sharon Shifflett, Glen and Dorothy Shifflett, special friends, Claire and Ashley, special pet, Teddy, and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
In his early years Herbert grew up working on the farm with his brother Elbert throughout Greene County. Herbert dearly loved his family and was well known throughout the community for his love of people, always a helping hand, smile and big hug at the Colliers, Blakey’s, IGA, Great Value Grocery Stores from 1973 to 2012 in Stanardsville.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with Pastor Wendell Lamb and Pastor Larry Morris officiating.
Interment will follow in the family cemetery, Theresa Ln on South River.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Duani and Staff in Ruckersville, VA and to all the doctors and nurses at Martha Jefferson Hospital for the care they gave Herbert.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 302 Stanardsville, VA 22973.
