Hazel Morris Riggs

March 12, 1931 — April 26, 2011

Hazel Morris Riggs, 80, of Richmond, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at MCV Medical Center in Richmond. She was born on March 12, 1931 in Greene Co to the late Luther and Loney Morris.

Mrs. Riggs was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed reading the newspaper front to back, watching the news and being outdoors whether it was fishing or tending to her garden. She will always be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Larry Riggs and his wife, Joanne of West Virginia, Lilly Powell and her husband, Robert of Charlottesville, James Riggs of Charlottesville, Ray Riggs and his wife, Debbie of Dyke and Robin Morris of Charlottesville and her special friend and companion of 31 years, John Johnson of Richmond.

Additional survivors include her sisters, Ruth “Sis” Shifflett and her husband, Norman and Lilly “Peachy” Batten and her husband, Herbert, and 10 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Sam, Larnie, Carl, Roy, Raymond, Earl and Elbert Earl Morris and her sisters, Helen Hogue, Betty Jean Ferrell and Lorraine Morris.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Fairman and the entire MCV staff for your loving care and compassion.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. C.C. Kurtz officiating.
