Hazel W. Parrott
Hazel W. Parrott, 89, of Stanardsville, exchanged mortality for immortality on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Grace Health and Rehab of Greene. She was born on December 18, 1922, near Earlysville, in Albemarle Co, VA to the late Forrest Jacob Wood and Effie Cornelia Estes Wood.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Brown Parrott, one son, Harry Byrd Parrott, who died in infancy, two sisters, Ruby Pearl Wood who died in childhood and Helen Marie Wood Deane and one brother, Delmar Jacob Wood.
Hazel was retired from Sperry Marine in Charlottesville, where she enjoyed a career spanning almost 29 years and where she had many dear friends.
Hazel cherished her family, her friends and her flowers and she gave selflessly of herself to each. Her sweet temperament, endless patience and unpretentious class were infectious. Even 11 years of Alzheimer’s disease could not totally obscure the occasional glimpse of her true character.
Left to forever cherish her memory are one daughter, Gathelene P. Rhodes and her husband, Bobby, of Stanardsville, and two sons, William F. (Bill) Parrott of Scottsville and Woodie B. Parrott of Stanardsville and Woodie’s companion, Pamela Sims.
Surviving grandchildren are William J. Parrott, Malinda P. Tingler, Rodrick Rhodes, Laura P. Thacker, Ronnie Parrott, Derek Rhodes and Joseph Parrott.
She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.
Friends will be welcomed at family night on Sunday, May 27, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.
