Harry Lee Knicely, 93 of Barboursville, Virginia died on May 6, 2017. Born November 9, 1923 in Dayton, Virginia he was the son of the late Emanuel David and Bertha Elizabeth Knicely. Harry is survived by his son Perry Lee Knicely and his wife Christina Marie Knicely and their three children Ryan Andrew Knicely and his wife Ann Carlisle Knicely, Lauren Elizabeth Craig and her husband Austin Craig and Rebecca Lynn Griffith, and her husband Jacob Griffith as well as his sister Loraine Wichael and brother Roy Kniceley.
In June of 1943 Harry graduated from the School for the Deaf & Blind in Staunton, Virginia. He then took his first job with the Frederick Post newspaper in Frederick, Maryland. Harry then moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1945 and started working for the Free Lance-Star newspaper and during his stay in Fredericksburg met Jean Georgiana Krollman whom he then married on January 18, 1946. Jean and Harry were married for 49 years when Jean passed away just prior to their 50th wedding anniversary on December 3, 1996.
Harry and his family later moved to Northern Virginia in 1956 where he started working for the Government Printing Office. He continued to work there over 30 years where he retired in 1989. Having retired, Harry and Jean moved back to the Fredericksburg area where they wished to spend the next several years close to his son and family.
Jean then passed away where Harry decided to move in with his son and family and later made the move to Barboursville, Virginia with the family in 1998. Harry became a very important member of the family where he and his grandchildren had a wonderful 18 years together. Harry (Grandpa) became very involved of the caretaking and running the kids around to the various functions through the years. The grandchildren were blessed to have had him contribute so much to their lives through their 18-year period together. Grandpa will be missed greatly by everyone in the family.
Funeral information: Ryan Funeral Home located on 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA will be handling the cremation. The family will have a private burial service reuniting Harry with his wife Jean.
