Georgia Marie Sellari, 64, passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center on June 23, 2011 after a short illness. Ms. Sellari was the daughter of Thomas John and Georgia Meskel. She is survived by a large and loving family, including her mother, Georgia Meskel; her husband of 48 years, Donald Sellari; her sons Thomas and Sean, and their wives Martha and Carolyn; her grandchildren Jennifer, Ashley, Lori, Christi, Paul, and Lewis; and her beloved German shepherds Kyla and Smokey.
Georgia thought of herself as a no-nonsense New Yorker, but everyone who braved her quick and often sarcastic tongue could see that underneath her tough demeanor she had the softest heart. She is remembered as someone who would do anything she could for family or friend, human or animal; above and beyond the call of duty was her natural domain, and she threw herself unstintingly into helping others.
Georgia grew up in Richmond Hill and Lindenhurst, New York, and moved to Stanardsville in 1995. A veterinary technician for many years, she was dedicated to helping animals and loved working with her esteemed colleagues at Ruckersville Animal Hospital. She was a collector of sick and unwanted dogs, especially German shepherds, which she made sure got the best care that time, effort, and love could provide.
The family would like to thank all the friends who have been so unsparing in their efforts to provide comfort for an unyielding grief, especially Dave and Ann Marie Anderson, Margaret McDowell, Catherine Lagano, and all Georgia's colleagues at Ruckersville Animal Hospital.
A viewing and memorial service for Georgia will be held at Ryan Funeral Home in Ruckersville on Monday, June 27 at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., respectively. She will be laid to rest Thursday, June 30, at 10:00 a.m. in North Babylon Cemetery in New York.
