After a wonderful 88 years of life, the Lord called George Edward Taylor of Ruckersville, VA home. George was born October 12, 1926 in Alexandria, VA and passed away peacefully at home June 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. George was welcomed into heaven by his mother, Ellen Mallone (Taylor) Burrows, his father, Samuel “Skippy” Burrows, step-mother, Edna Burrows, and brothers, Gene Patrick Taylor, and Maynard Fones.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Thelma Snow Taylor; and his sons, Glenn Edward and wife Mary of Charlottesville VA, James Patrick and wife Belinda of Knoxville, TN; and grandchildren, Preston, Wesley, Adam, Brent, and Emily who were his pride and joy.
George is a proud Army Veteran of World War II and career Federal Government Employee. He worked for Health Education and Welfare/Geological Survey as Director of Human Resources until his retirement in 1983.
George was an avid sport enthusiast! He played football while attending Western Maryland College, and was a talented catcher for the Greene County Eagles baseball team. He enjoyed bowling, horse races, and had an active role in the training of his nephew, Tom’s, race horses. He was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Charlottesville.
George was a generous and humble man. He loved the simple things in life such as family time at the beach, movies, Sunday church, a Starbuck’s coffee and donuts. He cherished more than anything his wife, sons, and grandchildren.
