George J. Kennedy

George J. Kennedy, 83, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away on June 19, 2023 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on January 17, 1940 to the late Hugh and May Kennedy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Kennedy, step daughters Sharon Ann Knight and Gail Knight, and brothers Wallie and Maynerd Kennedy.

George served in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Iceland for many years. He was a member of the Elk and Moose Lodge, along with Clover Leaf Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Evergreen Church of the Brethren where he was the organist for many years; he enjoyed playing all kinds of music, especially his guitar. After retiring from Sperry Marine as a Field Engineer, George loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Our love for George and his faith gives us comfort that he is in heaven and no longer in pain. We know he sits at the right hand of God.

He is survived by his two stepsons Lyman “Butch” Knight, Jr (Charlotte), and Bobby Loyd Knight (Karen), step daughter Gloria Knight Snow (Kenneth), eight grandchildren; Amy Shifflett (Kevin), Erin Knight, Brandon Knight (Jennifer), Nathan Knight, Kenzie Cale (Jimmy), Kennon Snow, Kenlyn Snow, and Kentry Snow (Carestin), and thirteen great-grandchildren; Nolan Cale, Drew Cale, Gabriel Cale, Hutton Snow, Halston Snow, Hunter Shifflett, Allie Shifflett, Chloe Chisholm, Lucas Chisholm, Ian Knight, Lillie Knight, Matthew Knight, and Brianna Knight.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Brian Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
