George Benton Durrer
George Benton Durrer, 75, of Ruckersville went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2012. He was born on January 2, 1937 in Ruckersville to the late Willie Mac Durrer and Duane Louise Durrer.
Mr. Durrer served his country in the United States Army and later retired in Telecommunications from Comdial. He was a man of God that enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a baseball enthusiast and played for the Valley and Shenandoah League in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He loved to play music and listen to Elvis but above all, Mr. Durrer was a wonderful and devoted father and grandfather who will truly be missed.
He is survived by his son, Dale Durrer and his wife, Holly of Culpeper, and his grandchildren, Ava Victoria and Lily Catherine Durrer.
Additional survivors include his siblings, Welford M. Durrer of Gordonsville, Mary Dickens of Charlottesville and Crystal Taylor of Charlottesville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas R. Durrer, Jack M. Durrer, Garnett Breeden, Louise Durrer and Irene Dennis.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968 with Rev. David Kingrea officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 789 Ruckersville, VA 22968.
