Gary Nelson Shifflett

Gary Nelson Shifflett, 68, of Greene County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 23, 1956, in Rockingham County, Virginia, Gary lived a full and meaningful life, devoted to those he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Florence Shifflett; his maternal grandparents, Tallie and Virgie Roach; his parents, Marie and Nelson Shifflett; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Gary was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Liz, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud and supportive father to Brian (Alicia) and Anthony (Jaime) and a cherished grandfather to Blake (Kayla), Tucker, Tally, and Cooper. His heart swelled even more with the addition of his great-granddaughter, Wrenley.

He is survived by his siblings, Steve (Debbie) and Jackie (Larry); uncles, Bill (Liz) Roach and Wayne (Marlene) Roach; and many dear friends who had become family over the years.

Gary had a deep love for music and a gift for bringing people together. His home was always filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and the enduring warmth of connection.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the COPD Foundation in Gary’s memory.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love of life, and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind. He is now at peace in the arms of his Savior.

At Gary's request, a private graveside service will be held for his immediate family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and an update will be posted.
