Gail Agnes Gallup Auer, 80, of Rochelle passed away September 1, 2016 at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Gail was born April 28, 1936 in New York, daughter of the late Robert J. Gallup and Mary Murphy Gallup.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James I. Auer.
Gail is survived by her sons, James Auer and his wife, Teresa of Chesapeake, Virginia, William Auer and his wife, Sandra of Ruckersville, Virginia; sister, Lynne Mieczkowski and her husband, Edward of Owego, New York; six grandchildren, Meghan Justine Auer, Jamison Henry Auer, Jamie Nicole Auer, Jessica Taylor Auer, Samantha Jean Auer, William Keith Auer, Jr.; a beloved niece, Sharon Hand; four nephews, Frederick Mieczkowski, Timothy Mieczkowski, Joseph Mieczkowski and Daniel Mieczkowski; and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Gail was a nurse for the Greene County Health Department for many years. Upon her retirement, she worked with the Jefferson Board for Aging (JABA). Community service was very important to her and she served in many capacities including the Red Cross and in mission work in Haiti. All who knew her loved her. She was a devoted Mother, Nana and Sister.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Our Lady of the Blue Ridge, 692 Lonnie Burke Road, Madison, Virginia with Father Jim Bruse officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family welcomes flowers however memorial contributions may be made in Gail’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org).
