Franklin Lyle Dudley

Franklin Lyle Dudley, 68, of Free Union, Virginia passed away on January 12, 2021, at Martha Jefferson Hospital unexpectedly due to health complications.

He was born in Fluvanna County on January 4, 1953, son of the late James and Evelyn Dudley.

Frank spent the majority of his life working as a farm manager which allowed him to do the things he enjoyed like hunting and fishing.  His other passions included family, friends, and racing.  He loved working on cars from a young age which then developed into working on circle track cars later in life.  He was always known for greeting people with a smile and never met a stranger.  Anyone who knew Frank knew that he was the most loving father and husband that a family could ask for.

Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mavis Jean Dudley; three sons, Michael Dudley, and wife, Christy of Palmyra, Rob Woodward and wife, Beth of Roanoke, and Ricky Morris of Free Union; grandchildren, Jordan Dudley, Jason Dudley, Ashley Tucker and husband, Andrew, Kayla Hannabass and husband, Austin, Cody Woodward and wife, Jessica, Travis Morris and wife, Adena and Richard Allen Morris; great-grandchildren, Joshua Tucker and Emmaline Hannabass; siblings, James Dudley and wife, Nina of Troy, Wanda Gibson of Keswick and Sandra Rigsby also of Palmyra; and many other family members and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all those who have reached out to us with their thoughts and prayers.  Special thank you to Graham and Sharon Adelman for all their years of support.  Frank worked for the Adelman’s for 24 years and they have become part of the family that loved and cared for Frank.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Ryan Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. To comply with COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, all attendees must wear a mask and comply with social distancing guidelines and funeral home policies and procedures. 

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens.
